William Zepeda-Lamont Roach: Stats and Stakes
Second TNT show provides intriguing lightweight main event
Flux creates opportunity.
To some degree, the lightweight division is in flux. Shakur Stevenson moved up to capture the junior welterweight crown. Tank Davis has been out of the ring since March 2025 with no return date in site as he deals with outside the ring issues.
On Saturday, we get a little more clarity on the direction of things (TNT, 8 PM EST). Raymond Muratalla, coming off a career best win over Andy Cruz, will defend his IBF title against former junior lightweight titlist Robson Conceicao on the undercard.
In the main event, two fighters who have brushed up against big names without victory have a chance to take a big step forward.
Zepeda lost wide to Stevenson last year but also made for arguably the most entertaining fight of Stevenson’s career. Roach was potentially a better referee from handing Davis his first loss but instead found himself in a breakout year with consecutive draws.
Let’s assume Roach doesn’t have another draw coming his way. Someone is going to wake up as the new WBC belt holder on Sunday morning. It’s a clash of styles where we know Zepeda is going to let his hands go and Roach is likely to stand his ground and look for accurate counters. Can Roach avoid being overwhelmed by activity?

The Pick: High volume attackers like Zepeda can sometimes see their activity dulled by better boxers. That hasn’t been the case for him. Even in his toughest fights with Stevenson and a pair of narrow wins over Tevin Farmer, he kept throwing, nearing 1000 punches in the fight with Stevenson.
That could be the recipe for victory over a Roach who is slightly favored according to oddsmakers.
Roach’s performance against Davis, and his second half surge against Cruz in his following fight after being dropped, were impressive. He is an accurate puncher who can use aggression against his opponents. The difference with Zepeda is he will likely see almost twice as many punches as either of those men threw in those fights.
If Zepeda can speed Roach up, he can create openings to land and drag him into the sort of dogfight Cruz did at a more frenzied pace.
Conversely, Roach is physically stronger than Farmer and, while not a huge puncher, appears to have heavier hands. Will Roach be motivated to win or could the frustration of consecutive draws where he had every reason to feel like a winner mean a hangover?
We won’t know until the bell rings but it says here Roach is ready for a win. He’s good enough defensively, and cool enough in the pocket, to find the holes in Zepeda’s offense and land during exchanges. Zepeda will do some of the work for him. Roach may get a knockdown along the way but this is likely to do the distance. This corner favors the better all around skills and accuracy.
